Sometimes we are in the mood for a big resort with a long list of activities and events, but other times we are in the mood for a simple beach resort where we can book in cheaply for a week just to relax and catch up on our reading. This week’s deal is the latter, a lovely beachfront resort just outside of Ocho Rios in Jamaica.
The Shaw Park Beach Hotel All Inclusive is a relaxed and simple resort and right now you can book a Superior Beachfront Room for only US$217 per night for two people. This includes all food and drinks plus non-motorized water sports, but the highlight is the beach and the lovely tropical breezes you’ll soak in while you are there.
A Superior Beachfront Room at the Shaw Park Beach Hotel All Inclusive for US$217 per night for two people. A Beachfront Deluxe Room is US$268, so the Superior one might be the better deal.
This rate is available through our booking partner, Expedia, and it includes free cancellation. There is no minimum number of days needed to qualify for this rate, so you can get it for even a long weekend if the rooms are available.
Smaller resorts make it easier to relax
The 3-star Shaw Park Beach Hotel is not for everyone, but it is ideal for many, especially at this price. While the room rate itself might be the best feature, the other distinguishing thing here is that it has only 94 guest rooms in 2 and 3-story buildings. This means that it’s never a frantic scene like you have in those 600-room tower hotels, where you spend a good chunk of each day waiting for the elevator.
The rooms are large and even come with free Wi-Fi, which isn’t something you see at many smaller resorts like this. They also come with US channels on the satellite TV, so you’ll be able to keep in touch with many of your favorite TV shows. Some people insist that it’s better to ignore the internet and TV from back home, and you can also do that here if you wish, but I prefer to have the option.
A long beach and included water sports
The beach out front of the Shaw Park Hotel is half a mile long, so you’ll be able to spread out as much as you like. Some of those tower hotels in the Caribbean have only a small strip of sand out front, so you have to struggle to find a chair. They also have a swimming pool here, a beach bar, an indoor bar, and even a disco.
The main dining option is on the beachfront, and it serves buffets or a la carte depending on how full the resort is. They also have an indoor and air conditioned a la carte fine dining restaurant for an additional charge. You can eat for free at the main restaurant, so to have an additional option if you are in the mood for something special is another nice treat.
