Regular readers of this site know that early summer is our favorite time for the Caribbean resorts because the prices drop WAY down and the weather is still more or less perfect. Some people incorrectly assume that Caribbean islands have a major rainy season like they have in Central America, but for most islands it’s just an extra cloudburst once or twice a week that is easy to avoid.
With that in mind we are happy to tell you about an amazing deal with an ocean-view room at a wonderful 3.5-star resort in Ocho Rios at US$243 per night for a couple.
A Standard Ocean View room at the RIU Ocho Rios All Inclusive Resort for two people at US$243 per night. This room has a “partial ocean view” and an “oceanfront view” room goes for only $19 per night more for two people.
This deal is available only through Expedia, our booking partner, and this compares to a normal rate for this room of US$460 per night per couple. This appears to be a limited time special and rooms are filling up, but it doesn’t require a long stay, so you could get this rate for only a long weekend if you wish.
Lovely rooms with all the trimmings
The 846 rooms at the RIU Ocho Rios All Inclusive Resort make it one of the largest hotels in the Caribbean, and with that size you also get many features that you won’t find elsewhere. The rooms each have a balcony with an ocean view, a stocked minibar (including beer), ceiling fans and air conditioning, and a kingsize or two double beds.
The resort is set on 22 acres with private sandy beaches, a huge swimming pool with a swim-up bar, a spa tub, a steam room, a full service health spa and just about everything else you could think of. Of course there are many water sports available as well as 10 restaurants and a nightclub.
Some people aren’t fond of larger resorts like this, but at least during the summer months it won’t be full or even too crowded so guests get all the extra features without the big crowds that usually go along with them.
Jamaica is cheap to fly to as well
For those looking for a holiday on a budget it’s good to know that flights to Jamaica are among the cheapest in the Caribbean. To reach some islands, like St. Lucia or St. Maartin, for example, you might have to spend at least $600 per person on airfare and take two flights, but to get to Ocho Rios you just need to find one of the many frequent and cheap flights to Montego Bay, which is nearby, and then jump in a van for the one-hour ride to Ocho Rios and your resort.
